Khalifan Lugendo, the Country Manager for Air Tanzania in Uganda, is appealing to the Ugandan business community, to capitalize on the services of the Air Tanzania Cargo plane for the efficient transportation of their cargo consignments to and from Uganda.

In a significant milestone, the first Air Tanzania cargo flight, executed by the state-of-the-art Boeing 767, touched down at Entebbe International Airport at 05:32 on a Friday morning. The flight, originating from Mumbai, carried an impressive cargo consignment weighing 40 tonnes.

Shedding light on the operational details, country manager Lugendo, emphasized that the direct flight from Mumbai to Entebbe took a swift six-hour duration.

He expressed confidence that this venture would catalyze international trade, enhancing Uganda's economic landscape.

"This flight holds paramount significance as it promises to elevate the trade relations within Uganda's economy. We anticipate a surge in cargo flights, fostering robust connections between Entebbe and global markets," Lugendo remarked.

Following a successful inaugural flight, Air Tanzania is strategically planning to introduce scheduled cargo flights to Entebbe.

Currently, the airline is conducting chartered cargo flights, but with growing demand, they are gearing up to incorporate scheduled flights utilizing their cutting-edge Boeing 767, boasting a substantial cargo capacity of 60 tonnes.

"At present, we are facilitating charter cargo flights to Entebbe. In the coming weeks, we plan to roll out another cargo flight from Mumbai to Entebbe, and we anticipate reaching full capacity on this second flight due to heightened demand," he disclosed.

Tanzania's national carrier is already operating scheduled cargo flights to various international destinations, including Nairobi, Mumbai, and Dubai.

The successful introduction of cargo services to Entebbe marks a strategic expansion for Air Tanzania, positioning them as a key player in the region's air cargo industry.
