City Pastor Aloysius Bugingo survived death when he was attacked by unknown gunmen who showered his official vehicle with several bullets killing one person.
The incident happened Wednesday evening at approximately 9 O’clock, when gunmen opened fire on Pastor Bugingo’s official vehicle registered as PRAIZ GOD as it slowed down at the Bawalakata junction along the National Water Housing Road in Kasubi, Rubaga Division Kampala district.
The shooting happened as the lead pastor and founder of the House of Prayer Ministry-HPM church in Makerere Kikoni, a suburb of Kampala, headed to his home in Namayumba town council in Wakiso district.
Muhumuza Richard who has since been identified as Bugingo’s body guard was killed by the bullets that were aimed at the co-driver’s seat.
Despite sustaining injuries during the attack, Pastor Bugingo managed to drive his vehicle to take his body guard to Mulago Hospital but Muhumuza was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The pastor was placed under medical treatment and is under close monitoring at his home in Namayumba.
Reports indicate that his dear wife Susan Makula fainted on hearing the news that the pastor had been shot dead, but later recovered.
ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police said by the time the police arrived, the scene had been tampered with.
“Statements from eyewitnesses have been diligently recorded, and the deceased's body has been conveyed to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a thorough postmortem examination” he stated.
He noted that in their active pursuit of justice, police is thoroughly reviewing CCTV footage to identify the assailants.
The gunmen fled the scene riding on a motorcycle.
