309 Foreign Nationals deported by Internal Affairs Ministry

The Ministry of Internal affairs through the Directorate of Citizenship reports that a total of 1,655 foreign nationals were arrested in Uganda from July to December 2023.

The operations targeted the foreigners who are in the country illegally without proper documents.

Among people arrested during the nationwide operations were Pakistani nationals, Indians and Chinese.

Ministry of Internal Affairs  spokesperson Simon Peter Mundeyi says 36 people were victims of human trafficking, 309 were deported, 80 foreigners were on appeal cases to be decided by the authorities to stay in the country.

Mundeyi adds that 348 foreigners were arrested in f January 2024 and out of these 27 were deported due to various reasons.

He appeals to Ugandans to report all foreigners who they suspect are in the country illegally as they may be a security threat .
