NEMA & Universities Collaborate on Environmental Innovation Sharing.

National Environment Management Authority-NEMA  and Busitema University have signed a memorandum of understanding aimed at promoting and improving research and innovation in the field of environment.

Dr Barirega Akankwasa the executive director National Environment Management Authority says the institution has signed the collaborative Memorandum of Understanding with quite a many partners from the education and research industry comprising of Makerere University,the International University of East Africa and now Busitema University.

Akankwasa says each university has its own specialization in the areas of environment protection and research.

The collaboration is also being undertaken with  other government institutions and private sector namely the Uganda Manufacturers Association.

Through its member's UMA has worked together to influence cleaner production and sustainable manufacturing.

"We've signed with National Forest authority, national Uganda Wildlife Authority, National Council for Science and Technology, and several others",says Akankwasa ".

The Vice chancellor Busitema University Prof. Paul Wako says Universities signing up with NEMA in areas of environment protection  is going to be extremely beneficial to this country as Universities will carry out research on environment conservation.

He says Busitema University  plans to establish a center of excellence in climate change, which will be supporting research.
