NUP Supporters' Bail Application to be Heard in March

The General Court Martial has further remanded the 28 NUP supporters who are charged with being in possession of explosives until the 19th of March this year to rule on their bail applications.

This is the third time that the suspects  are seeking to be temporarily released pending trial.

In March last year, the army court granted bail to only four out of a  group of  32 supporters who are on remand. 

The rest were denied bail on ground that they had produced sureties that were not substantial.

The group on Monday  today presented opposition politicians including  leader of opposition Joel Ssenyonyi among others to see that they finally get temporary release from prison where  they have been  since 2020.

In a closed door court session, their  lawyers George Musisi and Benjamin Katana presented their  3rd bail Applications, but court set the 19th of March 2024  when the state will make it's reply and subsequently have court rule on the said applications.

The suspects are Yasin Ssekitoleko alias Machete, Robert Christopher Rugumayo, Ronald Mayiga,  Patrick Mwase, Simon Kijambo  and Muhydin Kakooza among others.

These are alleged  to   have committed the said crime  between November 2020 and May 2021 in areas of Jinja, Mbale, Kireka, Nakulabye, Kawempe, Natete and Kampala .

They are charged with unlawful possession of ammunition /Pistol ) which is a monopoly of only the Uganda People Defence Force (UPDF) , and treachery.
