The High Court has granted bail to the two daughters of the murdered businessman Henry Katanga.
Martha Nkwanzi and Patricia Kakwanzi are charged with destroying evidence to cover up for their mother Molly Katanga who is charged with the murder of her husband Henry Katanga.
The two daughters, shamba boy and a doctor were all granted cash bail of two million shillings while their sureties entered a non cash bond of 20 million shillings each.
The court has also ordered them to deposit their passports with court and barred them from travelling outside the country without the courts approval and report before the registrar of High Court in charge of criminal matters every first Monday of the month starting from March 4th 2024.
While granting them bail, justice Isaac Muwata ruled that the suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty, and that bail was their constitutional rights.
Court further found their sureties including their husbands substantial and the fact that investigations are complete giving them no chance to interfere with prosecution witnesses.
The judge also considered the period they have stayed on remand since November 21st 2023, and the fact one of the two sisters Martha Nkwanzi is a breast feeding mother while the other sister was sick.
The suspects are accused of destroying/ removing valuable evidence that would be used in court to prove the murder of their late father Henry Katanga.
Henry Katanga was shot dead while at the family's home on Chwa 11 Road in Mbuya -Nakawa division on November 2nd 2023.
The daughters are charged with family shamba boy George Amanyire and medical doctor Charles Otai from Bugolobi Medical hospital as being accessories after the offence.
