The Ministry of Health is encouraging investors to take advantage of incentives from the government and partners to start manufacturing pharmaceuticals in Uganda.

These include free land, one million dollars from GAVI, and an open market for pharmaceutical products at the World Health Organization.

This comes as the international community mainly WHO, the African Union, and GAVI are all focusing on promoting local manufacturing of pharmaceuticals in Africa.

The Minister of Health Dr Jane Ruth Aceng made the remarks this afternoon as she presided over the opening ceremony of the 3rd Uganda Pharmaceutical Exhibition 2024 taking place at the UMA showground.

The minister says this call to manufacture pharmaceuticals is one of the lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic where producer countries first focused on their citizens before they could think of African countries.
