President directs Busoga leaders to find alternative sources of livelihood

During the meeting with  Busoga Local leaders, Operation Wealth Creation, and the National  Environment Management Authority, President Museveni asked that the people of Busoga be led to find alternative sources of livelihood. He says this will not only be a measure against poverty but will also promote sustainable utilization of the environment.

Busoga region is in the spotlight for the high rate of environmental degradation characterized by wetland encroachment for rice and sugarcane growing.

During this dignified meeting, local leaders were asked to manage waste, safety, and wetlands more responsibly.  Dr. Barirega Akankwasah the Executive Director National Environment Management Authority explained that Uganda's wetlands are vital ecosystems as they play a vital role in preserving biodiversity which in turn regulates the climate.

The meeting was presided over by the Prime Minister of Busoga, Dr Joseph Muvawala with enriched presentations from Operation Wealth Creation and National Environment Management Authority.
