Parliament sits this afternoon to reconsider the appropriation bill that was rejected by the President.

The Appropriation Act gives powers and mandates the Minister of Finance to release money to Government Ministries, departments, and Agencies for expenditure.

Although the minister of finance Matia Kasaija presented the 72 trillion budget for the financial year 2024-2025 to the country he cannot release the money for the first quarter until Parliament considers the concerns the president raised and return the appropriation bill to him for assent.

MPs were called from recess last week to return today and consider this important bill.

The financial year 2024-2025 started on Monday 1st July.
