Museveni accuses foreign forces of meddling in the affairs of Africa

President Museveni has hailed security forces for having brutally arrested anti-corruption protesters whom he says had been infiltrated by “bad elements”.

Without revealing who they are he also is anonymous about what “bad things” they supposedly intended to do.

"I want to congratulate the Armed Forces and the Security Forces and the Wanainchi, for foiling or not participating in the bad demonstration that was planned for Tuesday.

“That demonstration had two bad elements. Element no.1 was funding from foreign sources that have always meddling in the internal affairs of Africa for the last 600 years. The second element was that some of the authors and participants of the demonstrations were planning very bad things against the people of Uganda."

" If it was a patriotic, anti-corruption, peaceful demonstration coordinated with the police I Would have been the first to join ", remarks the president.

On Tuesday 54 people were charged and remanded to Luzira by various courts within the city while an unknown number remains under police custody.

Consequently, on Wednesday the Police together with the Prosecutors arraigned before Grade One Magistrate Caroline Kyoshabire a group of 15 people majority of whom were youth and they were charged with common nuisance and remanded on four separate case files.

Another Group of 25 protesters have appeared before the Kampala Capital City Hall Court and also remanded on similar charges.

The state is accusing the groups of common nuisances and being idle and disorderly. It is alleged that on July 23rd at Parliament Kampala Central in Kampala District, they obstructed and convinced the public in the exercise of common rights by being rowdy and blocking public walkways.

All the accused persons have denied the charges against them except one person who has been advised to change their plea in the next session if he so wishes.

For now, all the accused persons have been remanded until July 29th, 2024 pending allocation of case files to different Magistrates. This brings the total of remanded Anti-corruption protestors to 94.
