Church of Uganda Provincial Assembly convenes/receives Church House land title.

Hundreds of Church leaders are assembled at Uganda Christian University Mukono for the provincial Assembly of Anglican Church in Uganda.

The ongoing assembly that kicked off this morning at  Nkoyoyo Hall at Uganda Christian University is chaired by the Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, the most Rt.Rev. Stephen Kazimba Mugalu.

Before the assembly the Church leaders were sensitized about their role in ensuring economic development by encouraging the public to pay taxes.

Currently Uganda is has lost a number of grants from partners and is struggling to collect the 20 % of the GDP from the current 13.7 % as required by the world bank for Uganda to achieve middle income status.

Kenya stands at 17.7 percent while Rwanda tops the east African region at 21.3 % of GDP collections.

GDP measures the monetary value of final goods and services bought by the final user—produced in a country in a given period of time counts all of the output generated within the borders of a country.

The commissioner General Uganda Revenue John Musinguzi Rujoki is urging church leaders to be involved in promoting tax education and awareness so that the country can achieve the desired income for Economic development.

Musinguzi highlighted that non profit organizations like the Church and its projects qualify for tax exemptions .

He warned against corruption in URA and said he will not tolerate any staff at URA who gets involved in corruption to cause financial losses to government.

The Provincial Assembly is the supreme governing body for the Church of Uganda and meets every after two years.

It is the legislative body consisting of Houses of Laity, Clergy, Bishops, with each diocese sending representatives.

At the assembly Equity Bank handed over the land title of the of the Church House along Kampala road to the Church of Uganda ,signifying the full completion and hand over of the project to the church of Uganda.

The Hand over to Arch Bishop was executed by  by Elizabeth Mwerinde Kasedde the Executive Director, Public Sector &Social Investments at Equity Bank.

Church house is now generating over 800 million shillings monthly for Church of Uganda.

Resources from Equity Bank were mobilized by former Arch Bishop Henry luke Orombi, completion and clearance of the debt by His grace Dr Kazimba Mugalu
