Buganda Road Court has issued criminal summons against Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda and Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura after they failed to appear in court today for the mention of their case.

The two, along with 12 others, are accused of participating in a protest on August 5th, 2024, against the arrest and deportation of 36 of their colleagues who had traveled to Kenya for a leadership workshop.

The group, part of the FDC Katonga Faction, was arrested while marching to the Kenyan High Commission in Kampala and was charged with common nuisance.

They have since been released on bail after pleading not guilty.

The court, informed by state prosecutor Ivan Kyazze that investigations are complete, has ordered them to appear for trial on 2nd October 2024.

The protest was sparked by the arrest of the 36 members by Kenyan authorities in Kisumu, who questioned their visit and later deported them back to Uganda, where they were charged with terrorism and remanded to Luzira prison
