Rebecca Cheptegei, the Ugandan Olympic athlete who was set on fire by her Kenyan boyfriend has died.
She passed on at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kenya where she was admitted to the ICU on Monday.
This is confirmed by the hospital’s acting Director Dr Owen Menach. According to him, Rebecca died last night after all her organs failed.
‘’We lost her after all her organs failed last nightthe hospital would give a full report on the matter later in the day’’. Dr Menach said.
Cheptegei sustained 75% burn injuries after her alleged boyfriend Dickson Ndiema Marangach doused her body with petrol and set her on fire.
And the burns damaged most of her organs.
Cheptegei’s father highlighted that his daughter had two children, whose father a different man is residing in Uganda.
He noted that Marangach and Cheptegei had been separated for a long time before the attack, emphasizing that Marangach’s actions came as a shock to the family.
