Members of Parliament from the ruling National Resistance Movement are expected to reach an agreement with their party chairman President Museveni on  the   rationalization of the  key government agencies, including the Uganda Coffee Development Authority, the Dairy Development Authority, coffee Development Authority and  ,National Agriculture advisory services .

The Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua says the President will give a report from the meeting he held with the three parliamentary committees of finance, Agriculture and National economy concerning  the remaining bills related to rationalization efforts of these agencies ,then the caucus will have a final decision that will be taken to parliament.

The proposed merger of Uganda Coffee Development Authority and Dairy Development Authority  with the Ministry of Agriculture has been a point of contention  among MPs especially from the central and western regions.

The  legislators have expressed deep concerns about the Ministry's capacity to manage the UCDA’s mandate, particularly in maintaining the quality standards of Uganda’s coffee—a commodity ranked as the third most valuable globally.

Today's  caucus follows an agreement reached between the President and   the members of the three parliamentary committees of finance, Agriculture and National economy  to revert the Dairy Development Authority  and cotton Development Authority in the Ministry of Agriculture.

The  meeting also agreed that the merger of the Uganda Coffee Development Authority  be delayed for three years.

The delay is intended to allow a smooth transition, ensuring that the quality and global standing of Uganda's coffee is not compromised.

Yesterday the Buganda Parliamentary Caucus vowed to reject the bill that intends to rationalize  the Uganda Coffee Development Authority until Government withdraws it  , the Mps from Buganda region said Uganda Coffee Development Authority plays a critical role in the country’s coffee sector and merging it with Agriculture would undermine its effectiveness.
