ILO gives out digital tools to enable enhanced access to justice

The International Labor Organisation provided digital equipment to the Industrial Court, Ministry of Gender, Labor and the National Organization of Trade Unions (NOTU) to enhance the efficiency and transparency of labor dispute resolutions.

While handing over the equipment, Caroline Khamati Mugalla the Country Director ILO noted that the assortment includes technological tools, legal resources among others will help judges and panelists expedite the handling of longstanding cases leading to faster and more effective outcomes.

 "For the court, it doesn't here we shall give you continuous support to ensure that the electronic case management system is functional, these efforts will help deliver fair, timely and transparent labor justice to all including refugees and platform workers ",Khamati explains.

The lady justice Justice Linda Lillian Tumusiime Mugisha, Head Judge of the Industrial Court of Uganda applauded the organisation for the move and stressed the importance of embracing technology to enhance access to justice.

"One of the tools to enable enhanced access to justice is to embrace technology because with technology a lot can be done ,I believe the equipment will foster us to perform our role more efficiently and effectively"Justice Linda says.

NOTU Secretary General Richard Bigirwa also expressed appreciation for the ILO’s support, particularly the donation of a Land Cruiser, which will enhance NOTU’s ability to advocate for workers' rights nationwide.

“This vehicle will greatly improve our nationwide Operations. This support strengthens our capacity to protect workers' rights, especially in remote areas.”Bigirwa explained.
