A section of Members of Parliament has called for an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of Brig. Gen. (Rtd) Frank Katende Kyambadde and Brig. Gen. Fred Twinamatsiko, who both died in a road accident on the Kampala-Masaka highway near Lukaya last Saturday.

During a session presided over by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, Fort Portal Central MP Alex Ruhunda expressed concern over how two UPDF generals died in separate accidents under similar circumstances on the same day.

He urged the UPDF and the Minister of Defense to provide a thorough explanation of the cause of their deaths. Ruhunda also raised issues regarding the poor state of the Fort Portal-Kampala road, which he said has deteriorated to the point where a journey that should take four hours now takes seven and a half hours.

His concerns were echoed by Buhweju County MP and shadow minister for works, Francis Mwijukye, who emphasized the need for swift interventions to reduce road accidents.

Mwijukye criticized the Ministry of Works for not implementing safety measures agreed upon during a meeting convened by the Speaker last year, which aimed to curb the rising number of road fatalities.
