Police at Kampala Metropolitan East headquarters have initiated a manhunt for one Jeddy Daniel Kabanda, who is allegedly posing as an official from the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC).

Kabanda is accused of defrauding Bishop Kiwanuka Musisi Grivas, the proprietor of Prayer Palace Church Kibuye, of 700 million Ugandan Shillings by promising to secure two TV licenses and provide equipment necessary for establishing two TV stations in Uganda.

The investigation began after the arrest of Namalwa Ritah, Kabanda's wife, who was apprehended at her cosmetics shop in Gayaza.

Namalwa, who had introduced herself to Bishop Musisi as a personal assistant to then Acting Executive Director of UCC, Irene Kaggwa Ssewankambo, reportedly persuaded the bishop to send money to her husband.

Namalwa allegedly presented her husband, Kabanda Jeddy Daniel, as a telecommunications engineer affiliated with UCC, responsible for supervising payments and operational machinery for new television applicants.

Together, the couple initially received 150 million Ugandan Shillings, followed by 200 million, until the total amount reached 700 million.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, the search for Kabanda intensified after Namalwa, now in custody at Jinja Road Police Station, confessed to facilitating the transfer of funds to her husband’s account.

Owoyesigyire further stated that UCC had confirmed that neither Kabanda nor Namalwa were ever their employees, and all documentation presented to Bishop Musisi was fraudulent.

The case file is set to be forwarded to the office of the Resident State Attorney for review and further guidance on the next course of action.
