Government still uncertain about schools re Opening

Candidates who successfully passed the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education will have to wait longer to join higher institutions of learning as Government still has no clear opening  date for schools. Education Minister Janet Museveni says Government will communicate to the public once the re-opening date has been agreed upon by Cabinet.

Uganda National Examinations Board this afternoon  released  2020 Uganda Advanced certificate of Education results,presenting a total of Ninety eight thousand three hundred ninety two (98,392) candidates registered for the 2020 UACE examination from 1,952 centers compared to 104,476 candidates from 2,094 centres in 2019. This is a decrease of 6,084 candidates.

UNEB Secretary Dan Odong says 41,190 female candidates registered for UACE in 2020 as compared to 43,625 in 2019. Females constituted 41.9% of the total number.

He says whereas s parity has been achieved at the lower levels (PLE and UCE), the number of females transiting to the UACE level is still significantly lower than that of males .

In her earlier speech, UNEB Chairperson Prof. Mary Okwakol is asking the Education Minister, Janet Museveni to review the 41% UNEB budget cut amounting to UGX 55bn which she says is affecting activities around examination preparations.

Speaking at the releaseof the results, Mrs. Museveni  said  the 2020 UACE performance was better than the previous cycle judging from the results  of - 70% of the candidates in 2020, compared to 64% in 2019 attained principal passes to qualify them for progression for university education. She complimented the stakeholders on the reduced number of cases of leaked examinations.

The the Selection Exercise for S.1, S.5, and first years for tertiary institutions to be completed in the period of September and October this year.
