Prisons authorities have cautioned their staff in Karamoja region to remain vigilant to avoid falling victim to attacks by Karamojong warriors.

The warning follows attacks on two prisons staff in Karamoja region in two separate incidents in which one prison warder was killed and the other injured.

According to Frank Baine, the Prisons spokesperson the first incident happened at Kalenga in Kitgum which borders Karamoja region where a prison warder attached to Orom Prison identified as Mukonya David was attacked by suspected warriors while inspecting his cotton garden. His body was found lying lifeless in the cotton garden the following day.

Baine noted that the second incident happened on Saturday when armed warriors who wanted to attack Kotido Prison shot Onyakum Jacob, a prison warder in the thigh and left him injured in an incident that happened at around 11PM. Meanwhile Baine revealed that they have intensified the vaccination exercise of both prisons staff and inmates against COVID-19 .

He said they have so far utilized over 6000 doses of Astra Zeneca in vaccinating both the inmates and the prisons staff
