The Interpol directorate of Uganda Police has said they are soon fully automating the system for issuance of the certificates of good conduct to ensure smooth service delivery.

Addressing journalists today, Interpol director, Senior Commissioner of Police Charles Birungi said the system for application of certificates of good conduct was made online in July and that since then they have got overwhelming numbers as it takes between four to five days to get the certificate.

He however noted that they are working with their counterparts from the ICT directorate and the Forensics directorate to see that the system is fully automated and this time will reduce the waiting duration to two days. The Interpol director said they are soon shifting their operations specifically for processing and issuance of letters of good conduct to a more specious place at the Police headquarters in Naguru to cater for the ever increasing numbers. He noted that before the lock down, they used to receive over 500 people applying for certificates of good conduct per day but noted this was restricted to only 150 during the lock down and is now at 250 per day adding that this has led to a backlog and they said can be reduced by shifting to a more spacious place. He adds that members of the public are required to pay only UGX 76000 only for certificates of good conduct and that it can be paid through the bank, mobile money or visa cards.

Birungi warned members of the public against being defrauded by paying more than UGX 76000.
