One of the first members of parliament in the first parliament has asked the government to at least pay him a small monthly salary.

Stephen Muduku, a resident from Sironko district is aged 91, is among the first legislators who served from 1961 up to 1979 representing  Bugisu North West constituency.

Muduku noted that during his time as Member of Parliament, he played roles like tabling a motion to stop land tenure system in Bugisu where Semei Kakungulu was forcing Bamasaba to pay tax on their own land.

He adds that he played other duties like lobbying for roads, Buwasa health center IV located at Sironko district, bringing back Bugisu cooperative union to Bamasaba from whites  and schools among other achievements but the government has failed to recognise him and his colleagues up to now.

While speaking to the media at his home located at Budadiri town council  in Sironko district during pay visit by Isaiah Sasaga Wanzira legislator of Budadiri east in Sironko district and John Musila of Bubulo east in Namisindwa district he said, that the first legislators played big roles to the country and deserve appreciation.

The former legislator also says that since they are less than twenty in the entire country, the government must consider them by paying them monthly salaries of at least five million to push their life ahead.

John Musila, the legislator of Bubulo east constituency in Namisindwa district, promised to table a motion on the floor of parliament demanding the government to support the  MPs during colonial time in terms of medical, salary and construct them since they had played a big role in this country.

He adds that it looks bad for government to not consider these legislators yet they are resourceful

Isaiah Sasaga Member of Parliament representing Budadiri east constituency has pledged to talk to other members of parliament from Bugisu under Bugisu parliamentary caucus and contribute at least one million shillings each totalling to 25 million to give to  Muduku monthly as they wait for government.

He condemned NRM government of always considering things which are useless to this country  like paying musicians rather than diverting that  money to such former legislators who contributed a lot to the country
