Police in Kampala have arrested two people to help in the murder investigations after a group of boda boda riders beat a driver to death for knocking their colleague in Mengo, a Kampala suburb.

According to the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire, Bashir Aziz, 40 a former United Nations driver was involved in an altercation with a boda boda rider who had scratched his motor vehicle registration number UBK 393D. Owoyesigyire said that whereas Bashir failed to agree with the motorcycle rider, two motorcycles shielded the rider who had been involved in the minor accident and that in trying to pursue the rider, Bashir knocked another motorcycle rider .

At this point, a group of other boda boda riders surrounded the vehicle, pulled Bashir out and beat him to death near Lyna Primary School.

He adds that the motorcycle involved in the accident, UEJ 515K and the deceased’s vehicle were recovered and are now parked at Old Kampala Police Station whereas the body of the deceased was taken to the City mortuary in Mulago for a post mortem.

He also condemned acts of mob justice by members of the public that he said offer no solution to any problem.
