- Rwanda Burundi and south Sudan invited to join AICAD .
- AICAD is currently comprised of three member states- Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania .
The African Institute for Capacity Development has invited Rwanda,Burundi and South Sudan to join the regional body in a bid to fast track research and development initiatives aimed at alleviating poverty across member states.
AICAD whose regional meeting is being held in Uganda is currently comprised of three member states which include Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania .
Previously only public universities in the region were affiliated to the institute but its currently opened to private universities.
The current chair of the Governing Board Amb. Simon Nabukwesi who doubles as Principal Secretary state department of higher education and research, ministry of education- Kenya says their intention of inviting the three countries of Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan is to share management strategies of fighting food shortage, complicated diseases like cancer.
This will be through research and development of programs in line with related cases.They also intend to help farmers come up with high yield food crops so as to ensure sustainable food production across the region.
With Headquarters is in juja Kenya, the regional leadership is on rotational basis, previously held by Uganda’s permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education and sports.AICAD executive director is Prof. Dominic Byarugaba says they will traverse the entire region to understand problems in the regional through various researchers so as to find ways of addressing underlying challenges the region is facing.
John Sima an official from the ministry of finance and planning in Tanzania says Tanzania will support the initiatives for economic empowerment and safety initiative for boda boda riders across the region.The first meeting was held in Kenya, now Uganda and the next will be held in Tanzania so as to portray the good spirit of regional balance.
