Student commits suicide over choice of new school

An 18 year old boy has committed suicide on suspicion that he was not happy with the choice of school where he was supposed to report  as schools reopened after two years of the COVID-19 lock down.

Emmanuel Okello,a   former senior four student at Makerekre College school  and resident of  Kitukutwe in Kiira municipality locked his father in the house and hang himself in the compound, but he had earlier told his father that he didn’t want to go back to Makerere college school where he was before, .

His father went a head and got him a place at St Kizito SS Namugongo, but he wasn't happy about the choice.

According to deputy police spokesman Luke Owoyesigyire  the  father suspects it could be the cause of the suicide, the body of the deceased has been taken to the city mortuary Mulago for a post mortem

He  was a son to Moses Opio, resident of Parliament village- Kitukutwe, Kiwologoma, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.

According to sources, the deceased waited until siblings  went to school, locked his father Okello inside  the house and committed suicide in the compound. 

Owoyesigyire further urged the parents to report to the police or seek professional help whenever they detect signs of depression manifesting in their children.
