Court Orders Investigations Into MPs Ssegirinya,Ssewanyana Torture Allegations.

The Masaka Chief Magistrate Court has given state up to the 22nd of February to conclude investigations and inform Court on when Hon.Muhammad Ssegirinya and Makindye West MP Allan Ssewanyana are to be committed to the high Court for Trial on their second murder charge over Masaka Bijambiya killings.

The two appeared today via zoom for further mention of their case, however, Masaka Resident Prosecutor Richard Birivumbuka informed Chief Magistrate  Grace Wakooli that investigations are still on going asking for more time to have them concluded.

The court ordered that prison Authorities allow Relatives and Defense Lawyers to access the two legislators and also allow the suspects access their private personal doctors for treatment.

The Court further ordered that allegations of torture by the suspects be investigated to ascertain the truth after lawyer Shamim Malende informed Court that her clients were tortured while in detention including at Kitalya were they are on remand.

The two Legislators have often complained  before court  of being tortured  at Kitalya with Ssegirinya claiming that he has been been subjected to solitary Confinement and being left in the scorching sun during the day. 

 The MP's are charged with murder and terrorism  in which Prosecution  alleges that on the 4th day of August 2021,the MPs   killed a one Bwanika Joseph of Kisekka B Village, Kankamba Parish, Lwengo District. They are jointly  charged with four others including Sserwada Mike, Muwonge Jude,Wamala Bulo and Mugerwa John in which prosecution states that the group on the 23rd of August at Ssenya Village,in the Masaka City,with malice aforethought killed Kiyimba Tadeo and attempted to murder Ssebyoto Ronald on the same day at Ssettaala Village. 

The group is said to have planned the alleged murders at Happy boys, Kalenda, and  Kayanja Estate House in Kampala.

Defence Lawyers

 They are also said to have participated in the murder of Slaiman Kakooza, Michael Kiza Nswa on August 23rd 2021,at Ssetela Village, Kimanya,Kabonera divison .

 They were remanded on the 8th of September 2021 after they were arrested at Masaka police station were they had gone for the second day to make police statements on the famous 'bijambiya' killings in Masaka district. 

Police says some of the suspects arrested, implicated the two MPs of having hired them to carry out the killings, allegedly promising them large sums of money.

They have since been committed to the high court for trial over other murder and terrorism charges.
