Kampala City Traders Association -Uganda - KACITA-U has demanded the Uganda Revenue Authority -URA to urgently withdraw the notice of clearance of all motor vehicle ranging in 9years and above of manufacturing date.

Last week, URA issued a notice to motor vehicle dealers directing them to call conduct final clearance done at the port of entry that is either Mombasa or Dar-es-Salaam effective July 1st 2022.

KACITA Acting Chairman Thadeus Musoke Nagenda told the journalists at their offices in  Kampala today that most of Ugandans wont afford having cars while over 3000 people especially casual laborers and many others are likely to loose jobs once this is implemented by URA.

Nagenda further explains that this notice coincides with the entry of the Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC into the East African Community which provides and widens the market for the country's business community since most Congolese access the same goods through Uganda while a bigger percentages buy from Ugandan market .

He also adds that 95% of Ugandan buy these vehicles on instalments while others can't afford to buy bonded vehicles but it has been possible through the warehousing regime which allows vehicle importers to warehouse them up to 270 days.
