President Yoweri Museveni has regretted letting the late speaker Jacob Oulanyah to contest for the positions of deputy and speaker of parliament ,saying had he known his health condition was not good , he would have advised him to concentrate on his health.

The President made the remarks while addressing mourners at Kololo ceremonial grounds in Kampala on Thursday. Museveni confessed not to have known the critical condition of Oulanya until his colleagues called at a late moment when the illness had worsened.

He said that the late became too busy with national politics while canvassing for votes to retain his constituency of Omoro County and contesting for National vice chairperson of the NRM party for northern Uganda and did not give enough time for his health.

The president has appealed to the public and political leaders to consider health as a weapon and wealth that needs to be vigilantly protected and taken care of.

He also warned the leaders against risking their lives while yearning to serve in the high profiled positions, saying the position of the speaker is stressful because it requires someone to sit for a whole day.

The President however disagreed with the ideology preaching by the priests that it's God always calling people to death, wondering why God was taking Africans only at an early age.

He praised the late Oulanyah for being a loyal and disciplined cadre and nationalist who reunited the people of northern Uganda and galvanized support for NRM without tribal inclinations.
