The Mufti of Uganda His Eminence Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje has asked Regional and District Kadhis who are under performing to wake up and perform to their expectations.

Sheikh Mubajje noted that while some of them are performing as expected,  others have failed to do their jobs including failling to raise enough revenue from the Halal Department .

His Eminence made these remarks while opening a consultative meeting convened by the Halal Department in the UMSC Conference Hall at Old Kampala regarding the proposed Halal policy.

The Halal Department is responsible to slaughter animals and birds in the country, and the lower structures are meant to collect funds from it but according to Sheikh Mubajje,  many of the lower local Muslim leaders have failed to maximize revenue from the sector.

Uganda, we see lots of foods on the streets and roadsides like roasted meat and chicken but it is surprising that UMSC is still struggling with funding. Our Imams, Twale Sheikhs, district and regional Kadhis complain of poverty what is the problem? You being a district Kadhi what have you done to maximize the income from Halal? Is it left to the imams to decide what to send to you.
Mufti Mubajje.

The Mufti further raised concerns including the failure by the said leaders to engage him in case they have problems in their line of work.

Some of you Kadhis have performed well while others have failed because I neither receive reports nor a phone call from you. What does that mean? God willing, I will soon visit your regions and will begin with those with problems,” he said. Adding that, “We shall come and sit to solve our issues. Please if you are failing, inform me that the responsibility is enormous. Please consult me instead of me informing you about your failure. My phone lines and those of the Secretary-General are open.”

Sheikh Mubajje explained that as UMSC, they have formulated policies to guide them  better and that  if the leaders do not perform to their expectations, then, the problem will not be at the UMSC Headquarters but the regional levels.

UMSC Secretary General Hon.Ramathan Mugalu elaborated that Halal encompasses all things including body creams, perfumes, and urgued them to ensure that the concept of Halal is known, streamlined, and standardized countrywide.

Speaking at the same meeting, the UMSC Halal Secretary, Sheikh Muniru Ssebintu noted that they had decided to come up with a policy to streamline their activities and asked for their full participation to come up with a policy that will improve their work.

Hajji Issa Shaban, the UMSC Finance and planning Secretary informed the members that  Malaysia  doubles  its earnings because of Halal certification whole  China and Korea have also started  using Egyptian companies for Halal certification, which is earning them alot of revenue.

“Halal certification doesn’t only stop at slaughtering but it extends to other areas such as medicines, toothpaste, and kitchens in public hotels. People in Malaysia earn twice what we earn here because of opening up to Halal certification,” he said. End.
