Former FDC President rtd. Col.Kizza Besigye has been arraigned before Buganda Road Court and charged with incitement to violence. He has however denied the said offence before grade one magistrate Sienna Owomugisha and his lawyers led by Kampala Lord mayor Erias Lukwago are currently applying for bail.
His sureties include among other, Party members Harold Kaija and Wafula Ogutu. However, state prosecutor Joan Keko has asked court to deny Besigye bail on grounds that he lacks substantial sureties .
Keko told court that Kaija one of Besigye's suret is a farmer and has no capability to compel Besigye to return to court, while Ogutu had multiple homes which will make it hard to be traced incase Besigye jumped bail.
Besigye has been ordered to pay a 30 million cash bail which he objected to saying it is too much and he chose to go on remand at Luzira until 16th June as his lawyers appeal against it. His sureties have been bonded at 70 million.
