Uganda's growing population has reached a recorded growth of  40 million people.

This has raised a mandated raise of by 1% of the country’s total population in form of blood units as per global standards (WHO guidelines).

Uganda Traffic Police statistics show 118 people were killed in road crashes between April 24 and May 4 this year alone. This is according to Nsereko Rogers the KMP Traffic Police commander who addressed the public at the launch of the blood  donation drive.

The raise in road accidents and the raising population has now caused the demand for  over 400,000 units of blood that is required annually to meet the blood needs of the country.

Through a memorandum with the  Ministry of Health, Uganda Red cross society , working closely with Uganda Blood Transfusion Services (UBTS), are  mandated to carry out blood donor recruitment and mobilization countrywide.

This is according to  Dr Okwera Josephine, the Director Health and Social Services, URCS while speaking at the  blood mobilization drive at City Square in Kampala.
