According to Patience Nabukalu, the Climate Coordinator Fridays for Future Uganda, the Egyptian Government has bought off accommodation and inflated its prices few months towards the 27th Conference of Parties. She also accuses Egypt for making accessing accreditation of Climate Activists extremely difficult.

The Conference of Parties, known as COP, is the decision-making body responsible for monitoring and reviewing the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. It brings together the 197 nations and territories – called Parties – that have signed on to the FrameworkConvention. The 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference, more commonly referred to as COP27, will be the 27th United Nations Climate Change conference, to be held from 6 to 18 November 2022 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Patience Nabukalu wonders why the most affected continent is being denied access to policy makers,‘’COP27 happening in Egypt has been dubbed an African conference however it is really sad that many Africans aren’t going to attend because of the restrictions and hiked prices of accommodation and transportation by the Egyptian Government.’’The most vulnerable and affected countries to the climate change impact are not going to not to speakout against the climate crisis yet this would have been the opportune moment for them to do so sinceCOP 27 is being hosted by Africa,’’ she adds.

It should be noted that while addressing delegates at the Pre-Cop, the Minister of Foreign Affairs ofEgypt, Sameh Hassan Shoukry announced that the richest countries in the world benefiting from polluting air globally ‘‘have not yet delivered on the USD100 billion pledge’’ that they agreed to pay for alleviating the worst negative effects of climate change made to poorer countries.

‘’It is really vexatious that those of us that are directly involved in fighting the war on climate change are unwanted and neglected during these important negotiations.’’ Patience Nabukalu exclaims.
