The World Health Organisation (WHO) has continuously reiterated its continuous support to its goal of achieving self-sufficiency in the local production of traditional medicine but their extinction due to the increase in global temperatures has always been ignored over the past years that the United Nations ClimateChange Conference has taken place.Gokul Rajendran, the developer of the Govardhan App presented the importance ofIndigenous Medicine while speaking at the European Union side event at COP 27 invited by the Egyptian Ministry of Environment.The application is meant to help in research and development of traditional medicine across the globe according to Gokul Rajendran and helps to crowdsource theeffectiveness of each medicinal plants used by people.The World Health Organisation estimates that in Asian and African countries, upto 80% of the population relies on traditional medicine for their primary health care needs and therefore set aside 31 st Augst as the African Traditional Medicine Day.

For the past two decades, the Regional Director for Africa Dr Matshidiso Moetifrom the World Health Organisation says, ‘‘we have marked African Traditional Medicine Day, to honour the integral role of traditional medicine in the health and welfare of generations of people on the continent.’’

At European Union Side Event on AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance), Doctor Liz Tayler from the World Health Organisation warns that if young people take serious climate action, there will be no more indigenous medicine due to the effects of climate change such as drought, wildfires and floods. She adds that Increasing temperatures will accelerating the development, spread of resistant infections, negatively impact on food production systems, increasae emerging infections, and the exposure populations to new diseases the likes of medical innovators such as Gokul Rajendran are trying to prevent using with the help of the Govardhan App.

Currently on Google Playstore, the Govardhan App is rated 4.6 Stars. It is rated higher than Whatsapp, Twitter, Tik Tok, Facebook Lite, Messenger, Opera Mini and Instagram Lite with thousands of downloads worldwide.The Govardhan App allows users of traditional or indigenous medicine to share their experience after using a certain plant to treat a disease.

The app is an information center where data is collected by researchers to on how various medicines work. The app also allows one to search about particulardisease and know what plants are used for it & how can it be used.
