109 Died in Road Accidents in two weeks; Police

109 people died in 834 road crashes that occurred in a space of two weeks from 13th to 25th of February 2022, according to the weekly police traffic report.

Faridah Nampiima, the Traffic Police Spokesperson says that in a week of 13th to 18th of February, a total of 410 road crashes occurred, involving 375 victims of which 59 people perished, 316 sustained serious injuries.

According to her  Busoga East recorded the most fatal accidents of 6 cases followed by Kampala North with 5 fatalities.

In the week of 19th to 25th of February, Nampiima said  that 371 victims were involved in the 424 road accidents that left  50 people dead.

 321 people survived with serious injuries with Kampala Metropolitan Police East having the most fatalities followed by Greater Masaka and Wamala Region.

She attributed  these road carnage  to drink driving, driving under the influence of drugs and over speeding among others.

A total of 5316 motorcycles were impounded and 4866 were issued with the Express Penalty Scheme-EPS tickets in the ongoing driving licence operation conducted in the last two weeks.
