President Yoweri Museveni, while addressing the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Parliamentary caucus at a retreat in Kyankwanzi, has issued a strong caution to members regarding the use of their personal funds in the areas they govern. The President emphasized that such a practice can lead to indebted leaders, which he considers a significant mistake and a potential threat.

During the opening of the 10-day NRM Parliamentary Caucus retreat at the National Army Leadership Institute (NALI), President Museveni, accompanied by the First Lady Maama Janet Kataha Museveni, highlighted the importance of promoting the NRM agenda for socio-economic transformation. He called upon the MPs to advocate for the active involvement of all households in producing goods or services that can be sold, thereby contributing to prosperity for all.

The President emphasized the government's initiatives, including the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and other Wealth Creation programs, which aim to integrate all Ugandans into the money economy. He urged the MPs to encourage people to modernize their approaches and embrace contemporary methods of doing things, moving away from traditional practices.

President Museveni expressed satisfaction with the progress made in some regions where the NRM message of socio-economic transformation has been embraced. He cited the example of the cattle corridor, where dairy farming has gained popularity, as well as Masaka, known for its coffee cultivation, and Kalangala, which has embraced palm oil production.

In addition, President Museveni cautioned the NRM Caucus members against obstructing his developmental proposals, emphasizing that such actions only serve to delay progress and hinder national development. He urged the members to prioritize the politics of interest over the politics of identity, emphasizing that the former brings people together while the latter tends to divide them.

The retreat, organized two years after President Museveni's inauguration for a new term under the campaign slogan "Securing Your Future," primarily focuses on the active involvement of MPs in Wealth Creation programs and other pertinent issues. The President's address highlighted the need for unity, economic transformation, and the effective implementation of government initiatives to drive Uganda's development forward.
