5 Politicians Protest Kenya's Deportation of FDC Members.

Five  of the politicians who were arrested on Monday in Kampala protesting the arrest  and deportation of 32  opposition Forum for Democratic Change members by Kenyan authorities,   are now  free after being granted bail by Buganda Road Court.

A total of 14  members of the Katonga splinter group were arrested by police on Monday for being common nuisance.

The politicians who were granted bail are Kira Municipality MP Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda,  Kampala Deputy Lord Mayor  Doreen Nyanjura,   FDC  Secretary general Harold Kaija, Kabale Municipality MP Hon.Kamara Nicholas Thadeus  and a one Farida Nangozi.

Chief magistrate Kayizzi found the said politicians sureties substantial but remanded the rest  to Luzira prison because they had no substantial sureties. 

These will return to Court on the 7th August 2024 for further mention of their case.

Prosecution states that the accused persons and others still at large on 5th day of August 2024 ,at Katonga Road,in Kampala Central, Kampala district did an act not authorized by law to wit being rowdy and blocking walk ways which obstructed and inconvenienced the public in the exercise of their of their common right, there by concluded to be a common nuisance.

The group was arrested on Monday  at Fairway hotel on their way to the Kenyan High Commission taking a petition over the arrested 32 party members who had traveled to Kenya for a leadership training.

However, the group was arrested by Kenyan Authorities at Kisumu and deported back to Uganda, after the Kenyan Authorities questioned their visit and stay. 

They were handed to the Uganda Security Agencies at the Entebbe airport and the group has been remanded to Luzira prison after being charged with terrorism. 

The Katonga faction has since issued an ultimatum to Kenyan Embassy to explain why they arrested their members or failure to do so, have threatened to drag Kenya to the East African Court of Justice and the United Nations.
