A section of MPs demand that the rules of procedure of parliament be amended to have the parliamentary commissioners elected by parliament rather than being appointed by the political parties.
Some of the lawmakers who are currently undergoing induction on the operation of Parliament Florence Namayanja Bukoto East and Ndorwa East member of parliament Wilfred Niwagaba say that although they appreciate the role of political parties in parliament, the designation of commissioners by political parties will hamper the vibrancy of parliament.
The rule was changed during the 9th parliament under the influence of the NRM caucus giving political parties powers to choose the commissioners.
Four MPS are designated to seat on the Parliamentary commission with other senior members of staff plus the speaker and the deputy to run the operations of parliament.
Out of these four members one comes from the opposition and the three from the ruling party.
