The opposition political party , Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) has urged government to properly investigate and disarm the refugees coming into Uganda so that the country does not become a hub for terrorists.

Speaking to media at the party Headquarters UPC Spokesperson Sharon Arach   said that Parliament of Uganda should be consulted on this decision to ensure safety of the country.

She urged the office of the Prime Minister, department of refugees to critically analyse the security aspects of hosting these refugees.

Human rights activists have also added their voice on the same matter asking the government to investigate all Afghanistan refugees before they’re given safe haven in the country.

According to Dr Livingstone Ssewanyana the Executive Director, of Foundation for Human Rights initiative, the government should carry out thorough investigations into the Afghan nationals that are likely to come here and also disarm them.

He says  that some of the refugees if not investigated may in a long run harm nationals and  interfere with national security.

He is also concerned that these may be a recipe for well human rights violations once allowed in the country without carrying out  due diligence on their profiles.
