As school term two begins, some UPE schools in Kampala have registered a high term of pupils while others registered very few.

Capital Radio has moved around some schools in Kampala such as Nakasero and Buganda road where the tern up was good as the deputy head teacher of Buganada road primary school Lubyayi Charles explains.

But from Bat valley primary school the head teacher of the school Wanyaka James says the turn up has been so low as most of the parents in this school are needy and are still looking for money to buy their

children scholastic materials.

He adds that most of the children come from poor communities such as Katanga, Kivulu, Mulago and Wandegeya where you find a mother has five children who have been neglected by their father, so its hard for this mother to collect 40100 shillings for meals and upkeep set for urban

schools.

Wanyaka says, “we keep on encouraging the parents to save slowly so that were able to feed these children while at school.”

Wanyaka however appeals to parents to bring back the pupils to school because teaching is already going on as planned.
