PLE results out, Minister Janet Museveni highlights on amending UNEB act

Results of last year’s primary leaving examinations have been released . They  show a significant increase in general performance compared to the previous year.
12,391 centers registered for the PLE  in 2016 of which 76%  were Universal Primary Education beneficiaries .
The 2016PLE results indicate a steady increase in the number of candidates and centers.
Best performing districts include Fortportal, Entebbe, Ntungamo, Rukungiri, Jinja, Kabale, Masaka, Mbarara,Lira &Masindi with 98% pass rate.
The secretary to UNEB Dan Odongo says Examinations were not leaked,however Odongo says there were other forms of examination malpractice especially assistance given to candidates by third parties inside the examination rooms.
The chairperson UNEB prof J Okwakol says Social Studies was performed best followed by English language and integrated science.
Prof Okwakol says male candidates performed better than female candidates. The female candidates mainly performed better in English language.
He adds that  Kabarole district topped cases of examination malpractices where assistance was given to candidates by 3rd parties especially in mathematics and science.
A total of 1,886 candidate’s results from 24 districts are being held because of suspected malpractice.
Education minister Janet Museveni says the government is in process of amending the weak UNEB Act to provide for stricter penalties for perpetrators of malpractice.
