Police arrests teacher for hacking a journalist

A primary school teacher in Gulu district is in trouble for reportedly attacking a journalist attached to Vision Group’s Radio Rupiny.

Sam Okaka, the talk show host and news anchor was attacked early on Saturday morning as he returned home from a corporate night show at Diana Gardens in the heart of Gulu town.

It is alleged that Lambert Obwona, a primary school teacher in Awach Sub County hacked Okaka as he prepared to enter his car, outside the guarded night club. Okaka is recuperating at St. Mary’s Hospital Lacor from injuries he suffered on his forehead.

At the time of filing this report, Patrick Olwit, a workmate said Okaka was undergoing a scan to determine the extent of the injury. He described his condition as stable.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa River police spokesperson says Obwona was identified by eyewitnesses who tipped security to arrest him on Saturday.

On Monday morning, police searched Obwona’s residence in Layibi division for further clues to the attacks.

Police say the second victim was Bonney Diaato, a taxi driver of vehicle registration number UAU 043 T plying Gulu – Kampala Highway. He was attacked around Cuk Alot in Layibi Division and treated in Gulu referral hospital.

Gulu suffered brutality of iron bar hit-men between September last year and January this year in which three people died and 20 others including five journalists were injured.

Okema says 40 people convicted in connection with the attacks have been released from Prison or granted bail.
