Police investigating fifth fatal domestic violence case in Ankole in three weeks

Mbarara Police are holding a man in connection with the death of his girlfriend. The suspect is Januario Nsiimire, a resident of Ruti cell in Nyakayojo division in Mbarara municipality. Nsiimire is wanted for assaulting his girlfriend Caroline Mbabazi on Saturday night following a misunderstanding leading to her death.

Mbabazi died on Sunday evening as a result of the complications she developed during the fight. Taban Chiriga, the Officer in Charge of Criminal Investigations at Mbarara Central Police Station, says Nsiimire is being held on tentative charges of murder. Juliet Kamukama, a neighbor says it had become a habit for the suspect to assault his girlfriend.

She says they thought the Friday fight was one of those usual altercations. This is the fifth murder case in Ankole sub region within a space of less than three weeks.

On November 14th, 2016, 9-year-old Kevin Asimwe, a resident of Nsiika cell in Rubindi Sub County in Mbarara district met was killed by his brother after following a disagreement at an animal watering point.

On November 7th, Deus Karegyesa, a resident of Kishungwe village in Rwengwe Sub County in Buhweju District killed his son only identified as Deus during a domestic brawl with his wife.

On the same day, a man only identified as Clinton stabbed his rival Alkangyero Mugyerwa to death at a drinking joint in Kizinda trading center in Bishenyi district following a misunderstanding over a girl.

On November 2, 2016, Addy Mugabi stabbed his wife Patience Nahabwe and buried her remains secretly accusing her of infecting him with HIV/Aids. The incident occurred at their home in Katimba cell in Kakanju Sub County in Bushenyi District.
