Police still on the search for L.Albert accident survivors

Police reports indicate that the number of bodies retrieved from L. Albert has increased to seven bodies so far in a joint operation between Uganda police Marine, UPDF and volunteers.

This comes after more than 50 people drowned on L.Albert last Evening when the boat they were traveling on from Foso landing site to Lunga landing site between the two islands as they were going for football and netball matches.

Addressing the press today the police spokesperson Fred Enanga says that two bodies including that of one only identified as Majid and Ogenge Dorrah Winnie were retrieved Sunday evening from the boat wreckage which was pulled out of water.

He adds that 32 people were rescued by swimming while others by the Marine , but the exact number of those who are on the boat is yet to be known.

He further identifies the bodies recovered today as Nyayena Sunday, Sisto Olotwoth, Kotu Jareth, Anita Janet and one only identified as Ayera.

Enanga further raised concern that the landing site is not gazetted and in terms of the boat is not registered, luck of safety jackets , a list of passengers to be transported according to the procedures of transport and fisheries.

The Albertine regional police is going on with the investigation to establish the cause of accident and retrieved more bodies still in the water.
