Presiding officer survives lynching by voters over alleged ballot stuffing

Police are holding a presiding officer attached to St. Charles Lwanga polling station in Katikara parish, in Kisiita Sub County in Kakumiro District for alleged ballot stuffing.

Hassan Katumba Mugerwa, the Kakumiro District Police Commander, identifies the suspect as Saturday Messach. He was picked up as vote counting got underway at St. Charles Lwanga polling station.

According to Mugerwa, Messach was apprehended by voters and agents when he reportedly inserted 200 preticked votes in favor of the Kakumiro NRM LC V chairperson candidate, Joseph Ssenkusu Ssentayi in the ballot boxes.

Ssenkusu was contesting against Gerald Ssemanda Apuli, an independent candidate. According to Mugerwa, they intervened to calm down the situation that almost turned violent.  By the time of filing this story, Messach was in custody at Katikara Police post.
