Ralf Rangnick admitted his Manchester United side was not good enough after they slipped out of the Premier League top four with a 1-1 draw against relegation-battling Burnley.

He believed his side put in an excellent first-half display against Burnley in the Premier League at Turf Moor on Tuesday night. However, he acknowledged that two disallowed goals meant that his side had come away with a disappointing haul of a single point, despite an improved performance compared to the FA Cup tie with Middlesbrough.

Manchester United dominated the first half at Turf Moor but, after two strikes were ruled out, had only Paul Pogba's first league goal in over a year to show for it. Ralf Rangnick’s side thought they had the lead after just 12 minutes when Raphael Varane headed past Nick Pope. But an on-field VAR review from referee Mike Dean resulted in the goal being disallowed due to a foul from Harry Maguire in the build-up.

United did take the lead just six minutes later as Paul Pogba fired a Luke Shaw pull-back into the roof of the net for his first goal in over a year. The visitors once again had the ball in the net after Ben Mee deflected a Marcus Rashford cross past Pope, yet Pogba was deemed to have fouled Erick Pieters in the process.

Well, the draw sees United slip to fifth, a point below West Ham in fourth but with a game in hand, though if Arsenal wins their three games in hand on West Ham and two on United, they would leapfrog both of them.

However, Ralf Rangnick was pleased with his team’s performance, pointing to three goals, even if two were disallowed.
