The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association (FUBA) and Betpawa have signed a three-year sponsorship deal for both the national men's basketball team, the Silverbacks, and the female basketball team, the Gazelles.

Speaking during the Unveiling of the deal,  the Managing Director Betpawa Uganda Allan Tumushabe said the three-year sponsorship deal is worth 2.6 billion shillings.

Tumushabe says apart from the main sponsorship package, for each game the teams win, players will receive a bonus of 150,000 instantly.

He added that other costs to be covered under this partnership include team training, travel and  Accommodation to attend tournaments, medical insurance, and supplements, among others.

The FUBA Chief Executive Officer Marcus Kwikiriza noted that the fund will help in solving most of the challenges the teams have been facing.

“This is the first time our players are getting an incentive such as the Locker Room Bonus and also the first time in East and Central Africa that a private company is sponsoring a national basketball team. "He said.

While officiating at the unveiling event the Minister of State for Sports Peter Ogwang lauded BetPawa for the sponsorship noting that it will highly push the sports sector, he further called upon several players in the private sector to support the industry to ease its growth.

“The problems facing sports can only be solved by the partners we have here. Elsewhere private sponsors play a big role in supporting teams. Thanks to BetPawa for bringing the challenge here,” Ogwang explained.
