Thunderbirds In Shape To lift Kyadondo 7s Trophy

Uganda’s senior  women rugby team  Thunderbirds say they are in good shape and ready to lift this year's trophy when they  will host the national Sevens(7s) Kyandondo rugby circuit this weekend.  

The Kyadondo rugby circuit will take place this Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th August at the Kyadondo Rugby grounds. 

 Agness Nakuya the Thunderbirds team captain told the media in Kampala on Thursday that although they lost in the previous Kyadondo rugby circuits to the Avengers and Black Pearl teams, they have corrected the mistakes that led to the losses and ready to deliver an exciting game and lift the trophy this time round.  

“We are the best team in Uganda, and we shall put our energy on the pitch. We are not just participating but contesting to win” she stated.

Eight female rugby teams and 16 male teams have confirmed participation in games.

Besides the hosts Thunderbirds, other female teams include the Avengers, Black Pearls,  Kitgum Queens, Ewis, Panthers, Nile Rapids and She Wolves.

 Thunderbirds new team Manager Nansubuga Brenda aka Pepper who was unveiled at the same event promised that with support from the rugby family “ I will deliver, and never disappoint”.  

 On male front, Toyota Buffaloes team captain Wilfred Seguya  noted “we’re ready for the circuit with home advantage. Looking forward to Heathens and Buffaloes to play in the finals, and may the best team win”.

Malcom Okello, the Heathens team captain, expressed optimism that they will take the trophy home having finished 2nd and 5th in the previous circuits held in Mbale and Entebbe respectively.

Fans should expect rugby from participating teams as they contest to win this revered circuit trophy.

“The mood in the camp is good and the team is ready to make sure we win the home circuit trophy because Kyadondo is home” states Okello.

Other teams in the contest are Pirates,  Kobs, Rams, Warriors, Hippos, Walukuba and Rhinons among others.
