Mr. Steven Katwiiremu retained his title by winning the Senior Men’s Trophy at the 2024 Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship.

Katwiiremu, the defending champion, secured his victory with scores of 83 and 82, giving him a total of 165 at the Entebbe Golf Course.

Reflecting on his performance, Katwiiremu noted, "I started with a bogey, but hole number 8 was crucial. I pushed my tee shot deep into the trees, but I managed to save par."

"I feel great because defending a title comes with a lot of pressure. You know you have something to defend, and that pressure is intense. But I’m happy—I played with discipline, kept my cool, and took it one step at a time," he added.

Katwiiremu plans to continue improving his skills, stay on the course, and enjoy the game of golf.

On the Senior Ladies' side, Kagombe Edrea from Mbarara clinched the title with scores of 90 and 88, totaling 178. "When I got the two birdies on holes 10 and 12, both par 3s, I knew victory was within reach," she shared. "It feels great to be a senior and still outplay younger competitors."

This marks the fourth consecutive year that the Senior Golfers' category has been included in the national tournament.

Christina Kyokunda, Brand Manager for Scotch and Reserve at Uganda Breweries, expressed their delight in supporting the game. "This is the second year Johnnie Walker is headlining the Golf Open. It aligns with our 'Keep Walking' mantra—celebrating progress every day. Golf, like our brand, is about every stride forward, and we’re thrilled to offer an immersive experience of Johnnie Walker to our consumers," she stated.
