Woman hacks sister to death for snatching her husband

Kanungu Police are hunting for a woman accused of stabbing her sister to death for allegedly snatching her husband. The suspect is Evelyn Niwamanya, a resident of Rutwe cell in Kanyantorogo Sub County in Kanungu district.
Niwamanya is wanted for stabbing her sister, Gift Asiimwe on Saturday night at around 09:30PM.  The incident occurred in Kanyantorogo trading center in Kanyantorogo Sub County.
Paphra Mucunguzi, an eye witness, says Niwamanya found Asiimwe working in a mobile phone kiosk and stabbed her in the neck and stomach before fleeing from the scene.

According to Niwamanya, the suspect has been feuding with her victim for allegedly snatching her husband identified as Gideon Natukunda.

Paddy Rwozi Tumwendeze, the Officer- in-Charge of the Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department at Kihihi Police Station, says the suspect used a sharp knife to stab the deceased.

According to Tumwendeze, residents rushed Asiimwe to Bwindi Community Hospital where she died on Sunday afternoon due to excessive bleeding. Tumwendeze explains that they have launched a manhunt for the suspect to face murder.


Kidnapped Kanungu business man released after 4.2m ransom payment

A Ugandan businessman who was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified gunmen from the Democratic Republic of Congo-DRC about two weeks ago has regained his freedom.
Yoanasani Kyariisima, a resident of Kabingo cell in Kanyantorogo Sub County was released by his kidnappers in the wee hours of Monday morning following the payment of a ransom of Shillings 4.2 million by his family to the kidnappers.
Dabtience Tumusiime, a brother to Kyariisima, says they sent the kidnappers Shillings 4.2 million on mobile money following protracted negotiations to secure the release of his brother.
The kidnappers had initially asked for Shillings 25 million and threatened to kill their victim should the family failed to do so following his kidnap on January 12, 2017 from his home in Kabingo Cell. Tumusiime says they continued engaging the kidnappers on phone until they struck a compromise.
He says Kyariisima returned home with several injuries on the bums and back resulting from the torture by his kidnappers. Joab Wabwiire, the Kanungu District Police Commander, says the businessman is admitted at Kihiihi Health Center IV in critical condition awaiting an operation.
He declined to reveal how far the investigations into the matter have gone.


Police in Kanungu arrest woman for suspected murder of boyfriend

Police are holding Enias Asiimwe, a resident of Muhororo cell in Southern Ward in Kanungu town council in connection with the death of her boyfriend.

Ely Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, says Asiimwe was picked on Tuesday over the mysterious death of Sadique Tukasingura.

Maate says the suspects was picked up while planning to escape and is being held at Kanungu Police Station under CRB 1038/2016. Preliminary information shows that Asiimwe met Tukasingura on November 13th, 2016 in Katokye trading center.

They decided to spend a night together at Asiimwe’s residence where Tukasingura was found dead the next morning. Asiimwe’s neighbor, Stella Kyakunzire, says that by the time they discovered Tukasingura’s body the suspect had gone into hiding.
Police have handed over the deceased’s body to Kambuga Hospital for postmortem to determine the cause of death. The suspect declined to comment on the matter when approached by our reporter.




Seven people have been killed in Kanungu after a UPDF soldier attached to Mburamaizi barracks opened live bullets at them.

According to the UPDF spokesperson Kigezi region Lt Fidel Mashumbuko Lance Corpol Moses Kyatoka killed two soldiers and 5 civilians and injuring an unknown number of civilians.

Corporal Kyatoka has been working as nurse at barracks and he developed a misunderstanding with his wife Apofia Adikini, who is also a soldier and killed her and also a soldier who had tried to intervene.

It’s said that on  his escape  he killed  more civilians whom he met across and after  losing bullets  he decided  to hand himself to the Kihihi  police station.
