First Lady urges Karimojongs to store food

The prolonged dry spell in Karamoja should be an eye opener for the region on food security. State Minister for Karamoja, Janet Museveni says the Karimojong should start preserving food, water and pasture.

Mrs Museveni was conducting field visits to programmes implemented by Dryland Integrated Development Project, under the Office of the Prime Minister.

The project is aimed at increased income and reduced poverty among the pastoral people in Uganda. Mrs Museveni says this project should be used to enhance food production, and help people to store food.

The prolonged dry spell in Karamoja has left many families starving. The communities are also struggling to find water and pasture for their animals.
