Man accused of rape sent to Luzira prison

A man who used a knife to rob and after rape a woman has been remanded to Luzira prison.

The suspect has been identified as Sentongo Ramathan.

He was arraigned before Kampala high court judge Yasin Nyanzi and he denied the offense of rape and aggravated robbery.

He has now further been remanded to Luzira prison until 26th of this month for trial to commence.

Prosecution states that in the month of January 2015, at Wandegeya Katanga zone in Kampala district, Sentongo Ramathan and others still at large robbed the victim names disclosed 4,500,000 Ugandan shillings before raping her on Knife point.

Man sent to jail for stealing iron bars

A 32 year old man has been sentenced to two months in prison for stealing two iron bars worth 40,000 shillings.
Ivan Kalanzi of Komamboga Kwata zone in Kawempe division appeared before City Hall Court grade one magistrate Moses Nabende and pleaded guilty to the charge.
He committed the offense on 15 January 2017. He will serve his sentence in Luzira prison.

25 YEARS IN JAIL FOR INCEST

A 47 year old man has been sentenced to 25 years in jail for incest and defilement. High court judge Wilson Masalu Musene sent Kateregga Jjuuko Muhammad to Luzira prison after he was convicted of defiling his biological daughter who later conceived in the process and gave birth to twins.

While handing down the sentence Justice Masalu noted that convicted need to be kept away from the public for a long time because he was a danger to society and his other children.

He committed the offence at Mengo Lubaga division in Kampala district in 2011.

MAKERERE LECTURER REMANDED TO LUZIRA PRISON

Makerere university lecturer Christopher Bakuneta has been remanded to Luzira prison over rape charge.

Bakuneta a lecturer of Zoology at the college of Natural science appeared today before Grade one magistrate Moses Baligeya at the LDC court where he was charged with the rape of a female student who was staying in his house.

Prof. Bakuneta was arrested last Friday after the student reported the matter to police. He is expected back in court on 22 April for r mention of the case.
